The lighter life diet – Abstinence phase
By Kenj | May 9, 2008
My own weight loss was acheived using the diet called lighter life. The diet has a number of phases.
The first phase is abstinence. Like the name says you eat no normal food at all. You buy food packs from a lighter life counsellor each week. You also attend a weekly counselling session and get weighed. The food packs are a mixture of sweet tasting shakes, savoury soups and, after the first week, food bars.
For men you do this abstinence for a minimum of 8 weeks and in this time you should expect to lose around 3 stones. I actually lost just over this amount but stayed on abstinence for 15 weeks as I still had more weight to lose. For women this phase lasts 100 days as they lose weight slower than men.
You set your own goals and decide when you bring abstinence to an end in consultation with your counsellor.
The packs are very clever in keeping you feeling fed. You need to have them at regular intervals to avoid hunger pangs. I never felt very hungry on the food packs other than a few days here and there. The weight loss is not even and some weeks you hardly lose any weight. Other weeks you lose a lot.
Once you get into this start to the diet it becomes quite easy except you cannot socialise at all. Where there are people there is food and you need to avoid temptation to start with until you become strong willed and determined just to sip water and not join in with the food.
Once people see your success they will usually accept that you are not eating.
