<p>Every gram of alcohol (very close to a ml) contains 7.1 calories and this is second only to fat in calorie density per gram. Together these two items are largely responsible for most weight gain. In comparison protein and carbohydrates contain a more modest 4 calories per gram.</p>
<p>A standard glass of beer has around 70 calories, a six pack of beer will give you around 840 calories. All by itself this could well be around 50 percent of what is needed every day. Add in a plate of fries and it is easy to see how they add up. Drink a six pack for six days a week and it is a massive 5040 additional calories.</p>
<p>As a pound of body fat has about 3500 calories, you can gain an additional one and a half pounds of body fat per week from drinking a six pack daily, or 75 lbs (34kg) per year, this will soon amount to a fat beer belly.</p>
<p>Weight gain is simply caused by eating or consuming more calories than your body can use. This additional calorie intake is accumulated as body fat just as our body is designed to do, and very good at it it is too. It is not necessarily the alcohol per se that is adding the weight . But if we drink alcohol with our meals we are more likley to consume too much.</p>
<p>A large beer intake usually ends up as visceral fat layed down around our kidneys and livers. The typical fat beer belly is often round and hard to the touch, rather than the layer of fat on the outside of the abdominal muscles, which has a softer feel.</p>
<p>So some of the simpler ways to get rid of this fat beer belly include stopping or reducing the consumption of beer as a source of unwanted and unneeded extra calories. There is no beneficial food value in alcohol it is just unnecessary calories.</p>
<p>Avoid eating late at night and especially the largest meal of the day. We are not consuming many calories as we sleep. A large meal is extending our stomach all night as we sleep and it is busy slowly getting turned to fat.</p>
<p>By improving posture both when sitting and standing and concentrating on holding our stomach in will assist in reducing the round fat beer belly shape. While it is not possible to spot reduce the fat from the belly by exercising the abdominal muscles you will tighten them. This will make you look as if you have a trim stomach, and assist in keeping the muscles tight.</p>
<p>If we can reduce the alcohol intake as well as fatty foods and replace these with lots of vegetables and fruit we will make a substantial difference to our calorie intake. Even if this includes a comparable intake the calorific content will be reduced. High levels of carbohydrate taken in a short period will bump insulin leading to a reduced metabolism and on to higher fat storage. Keep in mind that fat and alcohol have the greatest calories of anything.</p>
<p>Get rid of the junk food, it is just not good for us, and set aside time for a programmed exercise regime. Our bodies are genetically adapted to be active and we need to spend some time exercising.</p>
<p>If you can build muscle volume it will have a major effect on getting rid of a fat beer belly. This is both from increasing energy expenditure but also in maintenance and recover time. The muscles, all require energy and burn calories long after the exercise is completed.</p>
<p>Likewise a good cardio workout will burn calories during the workout and long after it is completed by increasing your metabolism. Ideally this will incorporate interval training where the intensity level is raised and lowered throughout the workout period.</p>
<p>The only way to lose the fat beer belly itself is to reduce body fat overall which is sometimes not so easy with our sedentary lifestyle. Combine this with a lack of exercise, and a take-away fast food diet but we need to make the effort if we are to have long and healthy lives. The fat beer belly did not get there over night and it will not disappear over night but with the right program and goals you will succeed.</p>

<p>The bad news is that our body is not wired that way. Genetically we are well adapted to storing fat for a future time when food supply might be low. By reducing the calories too far our body will kick into a starvation response and attempt to store the fat already there.</p>
<p>With a reduction in food consumption to lose weight the body starts to adjust. The level of many hormones will change and signal that metabolism should decrease, appetite should increase, and fat should be stored.</p>
<p>Studies have shown that a rapid weight loss, or a reduction in calorie intake significantly below what you need decreases leptin production. This hormone will signal to your body that calorie consumption is not adequate. If this happens your body adapts by lowering your metabolism, increasing your appetite and storing your fat, which of course are exactly the things that you do not want.</p>
<p>The best plan is not to hit some hard diet, with the major focus to cut calories to lose weight. This drives your body into survival mode, the better approach is to instead take a more measured approach. By taking this approach the reduction in calorie intake will be less but there will be a deficit in what is needed for the retention of your current weight which of course will lead to the goal.</p>
<p>If you can reduce the number of calories that you are taking in and combine this with a good exercise program of increasing intensity, then you will see results. This eliminates the body&#8217;s move into a starvation type situation which would defeat the objective before a start was made.</p>

<p><strong>Lifestyle</strong><br /> We appreciate that Null also stresses the need for regular physical activity.  As mentioned, the author sticks to the basic concepts of weight loss.  Exercise has always been one of the healthiest ways to lose weight and achieve good health.  The great thing about it is that a little exercise, such as an evening walk, can already do wonders.  Null also provides readers with delicious recipes which they need to help them meet their dietary goals.  However, we noticed that in some testimonies, people expressed difficulty in following the recipes.  This kind of feedback speaks a lot about the “do-ablity” of a certain plan.</p>
