Losing Weight Through Self-Love and Self-Care

Being overweight has become a common occurrence nowadays. Fat loss articles and books are everywhere. The weight loss market is expanding daily.
Oprah Winfrey recently talked about her forty-pound weight gain. Like many she was embarrassed to have put on weight again. No doubt we can all empathize with her feelings.
Even when we lose weight, how many times, just like Oprah, do we just put it back on again?
I don’t know if you have heard of Laura Fenamore but she is one of the lucky people who have kept the weight off for many years after losing it. She says that it isn’t due to luck but due to the fact that enduring transformation must be rooted in loving yourself and caring for yourself.
Caring for ourselves is something that a many of us have difficulty with. We’ve become habituated to putting our job or our family first. There’s always a never-ending list of things to do. We ought to learn the skill of self-care. Laura Fenamore has made teaching these skills her mission. In order to lose weight, we must put ourselves first and that is difficult for many of us.
Isn’t it curious that it’s only by putting ourselves first that we actually empower ourselves to be able to serve others. Rather than feeling embarrassment about our weight or our shape, we need to begin loving ourselves. As a body image mentor, this is what Laura Fenamore teaches to her numerous clients. We need to start by loving ourselves wholeheartedly.
In order to deal with the problems of obesity and of negative body image, we need to change the main focus to self-care in our society. We also need to love our overweight friends as they are. Only then can the wounds start to heal.
If we listen to our own self-talk, it’s often negative, filled with feelings of shame and self-loathing regarding our body image. But the law of attraction says that our bodies are an outward reflection of our minds. So, we ought to being with healing our own minds. We must start with positive self-talk.
The weight loss market wants us to have a negative body image to drive us to buy their products. But as obesity increases, this industry is clearing failing. Rather than starting with diet and exercise regimens, change needs to come from inside, from our self-love and our positive self-talk.
