By Robert | January 8, 2010
The most awaited season of heat is here. Summer is indeed the most liked season for many people for they can finally toss those thick coats and warm winter boots aside and flash off those skin while tanning the skin on nearby beaches or swimming pools. But there are some things that need to be considered in order to keep our health condition in tip top shape during this season before we enjoy the summer heat too much.
Remember that our skin is prone to damage when exposed for a long period under the sun. Aside from that there are also the skin hazards caused by insect bites and the likes. In this light, we should put our health conditions as a top priority so as to maximize the fun under the heat of the sun.
It is inevitable that too much exposure under the sun can cause sunburn, dry skin and premature aging. It’s a good thing that there are many skin products nowadays that can protect us from raging heat of the sun. The only thing is that we need to reapply such topical products for at least every two hours if we would intend to stay for long hours under the sun. Wearing sunglasses and broad brim hats is also a must because our eyes need the same protection as our skin.
Among researches it has been found out that insects and bugs are very much attracted to heavily scented hair sprays, shampoos and other kinds of toiletries. Hence, it is a wise decision to refrain from using such products during the summer to avoid being infested by animal bites. As much as possible one should apply topical creams that are insect repellent particularly on those exposed skin areas. Upon reaching indoors thoroughly wash it up with soap and water.
It is also inevitable for our skin to dry and itch when prolonged exposed under the sun. In this light it is important to keep the skin moisturized with hypoallergenic creams. Another option is to apply ointments and oils which should be followed lotion application.
Scrub is a good means to remove those dead skin cells and make sure that you won’t damage those pores much. During summer we tend to sweat a lot hence we need to coat some sweaty skin part with talcum powder which can help absorb too much perspiration. This would rid of any acne trouble that may arise.
Another thing that individuals should be wary of is to come in contact with poison ivy. This plant can be distinguished by the three-leaf shining appearance. If ever you come across this plant keep a hydrocortisone crème or antihistamine pills nearby. The heat and sweat may aggravate the itchiness that is a common effect of any means of contact with this plant.
In terms of dieting, it is vital for one to have a hefty consumption of dark-green leafy vegetables on their daily meals. These food types contain lutein which is a good source of antioxidant properties that can help fight off the damage that are commonly afflicted by the heat of the sun.
For refreshments, have some green iced tea instead of your usual sodas. This type of tea contains polyphenols that is essential for fighting off pre-maturing condition of the skin and help in reducing the inflammation of the skin commonly caused by UV rays as well.
