Acne Diet Development: Creating the Diet that is Right for Your Skin and Your Stomach

By Robert | October 21, 2009

Many people could benefit from an acne diet. Hasn’t everybody heard that chocolate will give you pimples? Everybody has. As a result, it doesn’t really sound that strange that you are what you eat.

But, an acne diet is a very hard thing to establish. This is very personal and its based on your body’s unique response to certain foods. There are guidelines, but each individual’s progress will mostly be trial and error. Make sure you are keeping an eye on your skin. Write it all down. You could keep a photo journal. When your skin clears, continue on the diet you were on at the time.

Here are some simple rules to get you started on an acne diet:

* Take in a lot more protein - Some dermatologists believe that protein is associated with clearer skin. Oil production is limited from an enzyme located within protein. Oily skin tends to be more prone to breakouts.

* Keep away from carbohydrates - You do not need to cut out carbs completely. But you should try to limit your intake so that they are about 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates can stimulate oil production. For this reason common knowledge indicates that junk food causes acne. But actually junk food just is pretty high in carbs.

* Consume green tea - If you can, drink real green tea. The best kind of green tea is the kind you brew yourself. But, if you really don’t like it, the natural green tea drinks will work. Green tea will limit the creation of androgen. Androgen is a hormone that will cause your skin to breakout.

* Try to limit the amount of salt you intake - Salt most always contains iodine. This is the reason why you hear table salt called “iodized salt.” Iodine is a major inflammatory agent in those with acne.

You must watch your diet and what you put on your face. If you have acne you are probably already more aware than most people of the ingredients in your beauty products. Those who are prone to acne should look for oil free moisturizers. These are the least likely to irritate your skin. Mineral makeups are a good investment, if you wear makeup. By using mineral makeup you may actually ease acne problems and increase the results of your acne diet.
